Antiviral Antibiotic Cold and Flu Formula Many of the herbs in this formula have been shown to have anti-viral and antibiotic properties that can address a wide range of viral infections, as well as the ability to increase the body?s natural defense systems. Contents: Echinacea angustifolia root, Osha root, Golden Seal root, Lomatium root, Usnea lichen, Yarrow flowers, Licorice Root, Watercress herb, Wild Indigo root and Sea Kelp in a base containing concentrated Rose Hips extract. 20 to 40 drops 2-4 times daily or 1-2 teaspoons (60-120 drops) at the onset of viral infection and 1/2-1 teaspoon every 2 hours for no more than 5 days. Child?s dose should be modified to 5 drops for every year of age until the adult dose is reached. Not recommended for long term use or if nursing or pregnant.

Echinacea Root (Echinacea angustifolia)
Actions: Antimicrobial, alterative, antiseptic, antibacterial, immune stimulant, anticatarrhal.
Common Use: Echinacea is the prime remedy to help rid the body of microbial infections. This plant shows up in most herbal cold, flu and fever formulas, for this purpose it combines well with golden seal. In conjunction with other herbs it may be used for any infection, anywhere in the body. Not recommended for long term use in large amounts.
Osha Root (Ligusticum porteri)
Actions: Expectorant, antiviral, antibacterial, diaphoretic, bitter
Common Use: Osha is known as a strong anti-bacterial herb and is warming to the mucous membranes and digestion. An excellent herb for treating viral infec-ions, producing thorough perspiration and elimination of toxins. Also for bronchial inflammations and sore throats, the root will anesthetize almost immediately, with expectoration.
Golden Seal Root (Hydrastis canadensis)
Actions: Tonic, astringent, anticatarrhal, laxative, muscular stimulant, bitter, pectoral.
Common Use: Golden seal owes most of its specific uses to the powerful tonic qualities shown towards the mucous membranes of the body. It is therefore helpful in all digestive problems. Its bitter stimulation gives it a role in loss of appetite. Also known to improve all catarrhal conditions, especially those of the sinuses. Not recommended for long term use or if pregnant or nursing.
Lomatium Root (Lomatium dissectum)
Actions: Antiviral, antibacterial, antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, immune stimulator.
Common Use: Lomatium root has been used as an effective anti-viral and anti-bacterial remedy, it is especially useful in the relief of respiratory and urinary infections. This herb was used by the North American Indians as their most powerful herbal antibiotic. It has shown effective against a wide variety of bacteria and fungi in lab tests. This herb also has the ability to make the blood more alkaline, which is beneficial for many people who have too acidic blood. Also used to stimulate the immune system and decrease inflammation.
Usnea lichen (Usnea barbata)
Actions: Antibiotic, antibacterial, antimicrobial, expectorant, immune strengthener.
Common Use: Usnea or old man's beard as it is sometimes referred contains usnic acid, a natural antibiotic proven effective against gram positive bacteria, such as Streptococcus (strep throat), Staphylococcus (impetigo, etc.), Mycobacterium tuberculosis, and other fast growing species. Scientists think that usnic acid works by disrupting cellular metabolism, either by preventing the formation of ATP (the cells' energy source), or by the uncoupling of oxidative phosphorylization. Usnea may also be superior to the drug Flagyl (metronidazole). Usnea is effective against Trichomonas, a parasite which can cause among other things, a serious infection of the uterine cervix. Flagyl is widely prescribed for Trichomonas infection, but it is now believed to also cause cancer. We pick and make this product fresh.
Yarrow flower (Achillea millefolium)
Actions: Diaphoretic, stimulant, hypotensive, astringent, diuretic, tonic, alterative, antiseptic, depurative.
Common Use: Yarrow is one of the best diaphoretic herbs and is a standard remedy for aiding the body to deal with fevers. It lowers blood pressure due to a dilation of the peripheral vessels, stimulates digestion and tones the blood vessels. As a urinary antiseptic it is indicated in infections such as cystitis. Preparations of yarrow flower have been shown to stimulate the gastric juices, this would account for yarrows effectiveness as a tonic, with improved digestion of foods, which is due to the presence of bitter substances in the blossoms. Test tube studies have shown yarrow to possess antibiotic properties. Not recommended if nursing or pregnant.
Licorice Root (Glycyrrhiza glabra)
Actions: Expectorant, demulcent, anti-inflammatory, adrenal agent, antispasmodic, mild laxative, alterative, antibacterial, antimicrobial, antitoxic, tonic, pectoral.
Common Use: In China, licorice root has been called "The Great Detoxifier." It acts on the endocrine system and the liver as an anti-hepatotoxic effective in treating hepatitis and cirrhosis. Also as an expectorant and anti-inflammatory it is useful in coughs and bronchitis. A recent study found that licorice root actually stimulates the production of interferon, that critical chemical in the immune system that could be the key to preventing and treating many immune response deficiency diseases. A group of Russian researchers have found that licorice root inhibits the growth of certain tumors. Licorice Root also possesses estrogenic activity, and is said to be beneficial as a uterine tonic and to induce normal ovulation. This herb is also included in the Hoxsey formula. Caution: Excessive and prolonged use of licorice root can cause sodium retention and potassium depletion. Potassium supplementation (75-100mg daily) prevents this problem. Not recommended if nursing or pregnant.
Watercress herb (Nasturtium officinale)
Actions: Depurative, tonic, stimulant.
Common Use: The American Indian used this herb for liver and kidney trouble and to dissolve kidney stones. It is rich in iron and other valuable mineral elements and its blood purifying and system cleansing properties cause it to be used extensively as a blood purifier. J.E. Meyers, Botanical Gardens of Hammond, Indiana informs us that watercress is one of the best sources of vitamin E. This is the fertility vitamin, helping the body use oxygen, which increases physical endurance and stamina and improves heart response. Brazilian research found watercress extract to possess anti-tumor properties while other research found watercress leaf juice to be active against cultures of tubercle bacillus. Avoid prolonged use in large amounts.
Wild Indigo Root (Baptisia tinctoria)
Actions: Antimicrobial, anticatarrhal, alterative, febrifuge, antiseptic.
Common Use: Wild indigo is an herb to be considered wherever there is a focused infection, especially infections and catarrh in the ear, nose and throat. It may be used for laryngitis, tonsillitis, pharyngitis and catarrhal infections of the nose and sinus. Taken internally and as a mouthwash it will help with mouth ulcers, gingivitis, and in the control of pyorrhea. Also used effectively to treat enlarged and inflamed lymph glands, the action of this plant exerts a vital influence, aiding in metabolism by stimulating the elimination of accumulated waste in the body and encouraging normal organic activity. This herb is also included in the Hoxsey formula. Use With Care. Better long term in formulas.
Kelp (Laminaria species) or Bladderwrack (Fucus vesiculosus)
Actions: Alterative, antirheumatic, antibacterial, antibiotic, cardiac tonic, antioxidant.
