DHEA
(dehydroepiandrosterone)
potential weight loss hormone
DHEA
is a hormone excreted into the bloodstream by the adrenal cortex
in concentrations thousands of times greater than any other
hormone in the body. DHEA is a common precursor to other hormones
such as testosterone, estrogen and cortisone. Levels of the
hormone peak at around age 21 declining steadily as age progresses.
In fact, individuals with cancer and chronic fatigue exhibit
depressed levels of DHEA in the body.
DHEA is effective and remarkably
free of side effects when taken in proper amounts. As an anti-aging
supplement, daily doses should not exceed 25mg.
DHEA is commonly associated with
weight loss. This effect however can cause much stress on the
body. Therefore, it is recommended to lose weight gradually.
Studies show a correlation between DHEA deficiency or insufficiency
and a variety of diseases and symptoms. For example, decreased
levels of DHEA predispose humans and animals to a higher probability
of breast cancer, autoimmune diseases, osteoporosis, and Alzheimers
disease.
DHEA is not recommended for men
with existing prostate problems. High levels of testosterone
production can result in overproduction of prostate cells. Men
without health problems under the age of 40 should also refrain
from use of this product.
