It is an Ionic Adsorption microfilter capable of up to 2 micron filtration. That means that organisms such as Giardia and Crytosporidium. are effectively filtered from your water supply. The Pres2Pure Canteen 30oz. Advanced Replacement Filter has a filtration volume of 100 gallons.

- Q: How do you know when you have reached the limit on filtration on the old canteen and on the new canteen? Since there is no accurate way to measure the amount of gallons.
Will the new filter fit on the old canteen? The old canteen fits the army stuff where the new one is too tall on some of the covers.
Do you still make the old style filter? - A: Reaching the limit of filtration often is accompanied by a change in taste, which is most commonly characterized by the re-emergence of the taste of chlorine. One can obtain pseudo-accuracy by noting the number of refills usually consumed over a short period of time and doing the math to estimate the number of months expected for the gallon rating of the filter. For a 30oz. canteen at a rate of 4 refills per week, this would translate into approximately 1 gallon per week. For a 100-gallon filter, this equates to about 2 years. Obviously, this is probably a very conservative estimate.
The new filter does not fit the old canteen.
