Product Description - Vital Proteins Dr. Kaayla Daniels' Type II Cartilage Collagen Grass-Fed Pasture-Raised 750 mg 120 Capsules

Hoxsey Red Clover Burdock Plus Blood Cleansing Herbal Formula

Whole30 Approved Abundant in nutritional bioactive compounds, Vital Proteins' Cartilage Collagen Bovine Tracheal Cartilage is rich in Type II Collagen Peptides and Glycosaminoglycans including naturally occuring Chondroitin Sulfate.

Type II Collagen is the major structural component in connective tissues. Rich in amino acids glycine and proline, Type II Collagen provides building blocks for cartilage, ligaments, tendons, and bone.

Chondroitin Sulfate, a mucopolysaccharide found in connective tissue provides the building blocks to support healthy joints and bones. It acts as a natural cushion to joints and promotes collagen repair. The glycosaminoglycans are effective for skin hydration and repairing the skin.

Dr. Daniel, a strong advocate of Dr. John Prudden, M.D.'s research on the benefit of Bovine Tracheal Cartilage, earned her Ph.D. in Nutritional Sciences and Anti-Aging Therapies from the Union Institute and University in Cincinnati, is board certified as a clinical nutritionist (CCN) and in 2005, she received the Integrity in Science Award from the Weston A. Price Foundation.

Collagen Peptides - Pasture-Raised, Grass-Fed Nutrition

Vital Protein's cattle graze on lush grasslands in Brazil and are not given hormones, steroids, or antibiotics. They eat their natural diet - grass, and receive plenty of open space and sunshine. We believe in providing our animals with an environment that nature intended, and the result is a high quality protein that is natural and pure. Vital Proteins produces its gelatin and collagen peptides in Brazil. The cattle industry in Brazil is based on perennial tropical grass pasture systems. We have taken great care to ensure that the pasture size for each animal is one animal per 2.67 acres. These standards are in alignment with the Global Animal Partnership 5-step animal welfare rating standards.

Why Grass-Fed Cattle?

Vital Protein's collagen is produced exclusively in Brazil. The collagen is primarily derived from Nelore breed bovine hides. The cattle industry in Brazil is still based on grass systems, where the cattle are pasture raised. This constitutes an important advantage for Brazilian cattle. Since the cattle were pasture-raised and grass fed, this eliminates the risk of rBGH in their feed. Brazil also has a law (Decree No 57 824 Article 4(4)) which prohibits the addition of hormones to feed. The hormone rBGH is typically injected into dairy cows to make them produce more milk. The Nelore breed is not a dairy producing cow and is strictly used as a beef breed. Based on these factors, the collagen is derived from bovine hide without the use of hormones like rBGH.

How are the hides processed and broken down?

The process for making gelatin and collagen peptides involves treating the bovine hides with an alkaline solution of lime and water, which is heated to a maximum of 190°F. The peptides are made with enzymes which break down the protein further. The enzyme process does not involve high heat and results in a very fresh tasting product.

What is Collagen?

Collagen is the most abundant protein in the body. It is a primary bulding block of skin, hair, nails, bones, tendons, joints, and cartilage. It is considered the "glue that holds the body together."

Why do we need Collagen?

We believe that whole food based nutrition containing collagen is essential for one's overall health, fitness and wellbeing. Our ancestors utilized sustainable whole animal nutrition, which provided an abundant amount of collagen. Over the past century modern food processing has removed this natural and healthy protein from our diets. Collagen is vital for our body and is the basic building block of skin, hair, nails, bones and joints. When we get older, the production of collagen begins to slow down and cell structures start losing their strength. Collagen provides the building blocks for skin, hair, tendon, cartilage, bones and joints. Supplementing with collagen is a vital way to help your body rejuvenate and stay youthful. Collagen peptides supply amino acids that are needed to build new collagen. Collagen peptides are high in specific amino acids such as Glycine and Proline that are especially needed for the production of new collagen. The collagen peptides stimulate certain cells (fibroblasts, osteoblasts) to build new collagen. Supplementation with collagen peptides can support connective tissue health in athletes and could reduce the exercise induced increase of urinary collagen crosslinks. Supplementation with 30 - 70 grams of collagen peptides per day showed a reduction of risk for injuries on muscle, tendons, and ligaments in athletes.

Bone and Joint Support

Collagen represents up to 90% of organic bone mass and is a major component of ligaments, joints, and tendons. Supplementing our diet to ensure that our bodies are enriched with collagen is an important key to good health and a full life. Several studies on collagen, which represents 90% of organic bone mass, suggest that orally administering collagen peptides may provide beneficial effects on bone metabolism without obvious undesirable effects. Several studies show that a daily intake of 10g of collagen peptides for 4 to 24 weeks may increase bone mass density.

What is the difference between Collagen Peptides and Beef Gelatin?

Vital Proteins pasture-raised Collagen Peptides and Beef Gelatin have similar amino acid profiles and offer very similar nutritional benefits. Both are virtually odorless and tasteless, making them extremely versatile. However, they are quite different in application.

Collagen Peptides (blue lid): Our peptides are gelatin proteins broken down into their constituent peptide chains through an enzymatic process. This allows our collagen peptides to not “gel” in cold liquids. Heating them will not alter their nutritional value. The peptides have the advantage of mixing well into both cold and hot liquids without them "gelling." However, you cannot use them in recipes that call for gelatin. You may add our peptides to cold and hot beverages alike, such as a smoothie, juice, water, tea or coffee, as well as a variety of foods like pancakes or oatmeal to boost the protein content.

Beef Gelatin (green lid): Our gelatin will “gel” in cold liquids. As a result, gelatin is ideal for hot preparations, and is a staple in many recipes. Our gelatin may be added to soups, broths, sauces or gravy as a natural protein booster and thickener, or used when baking. They can also be used to create a delicious homemade mousse, ice cream, pudding and yogurt -- even omelettes and meatloaf, or use them to make nutritious fruit gelatin and healthy gummy snacks. You may also enjoy them in hot beverages like herbal tea or frothy butter coffee. Health wise, the gelatin has the advantage of taking slightly longer to digest and coating the small intestine, which is beneficial in gut healing diets like GAPS, AIP or SCD.
